Probably one of the most intimidating aspects of learning to ride a motorcycle for the first time is learning how to shift and using the clutch. In this video we demonstrate proper techniques for both learning how to ride as well as more advanced techniques for shifting smoothly.

  • Iya ya Allah.

  • I don't know how I ended up watching this (something to do with autoplay) but I looked down at the comments and I gotta say, it warms my heart so much seeing so many beginners so excited about getting motorcycles. I've been riding about 10 years and I remember clearly being exactly where you all are. I could not WAIT to get on my first machine. And let me tell you - since that day, my life has never been the same, and I have ridden a motorcycle every day of my life since and been the happiest I've ever been. It's worth it guys. Get out there and join us!

  • Thank for the video. I have a question, When you’re in the highest gear and riding fast (maybe riding on the highway) are you maintaining throttle in the higher RPMs? Or Are you continuously shifting from 6th to 5th (when you hit the redline) to maintain high speeds? Thanks In Advance to whoever answers

  • well now I'm confused because on youtube several times I've heard you can up or down shift 1 0r 2 04r more gears without a problem and I've tried it. So I don't understand why you say only one shift at a time. Does it damage the engine or what?

    geoopageoopaBulan Yang lalu
  • You probably would never see this but i have a 03 speed triple and took it to the dealership because it was leaking oil they said the oil pan is cracked and it would be 900$ to fix, would it be possible to bring the bike home and replace the oil pan my self? or is this to much of a challenge.

  • So you shift past neutral when going from first to 2nd gear

    Luke VeldhuizenLuke VeldhuizenBulan Yang lalu
  • My CBR 650f has a strange transmission issue... sometimes when I upshift, I'll let the clutch out and get back on the throttle but it revs like it's in neutral, then I drop the throttle back to 0 and it usually slaps into gear by itself. Sometimes it lasts longer than other times before slipping into gear, and it is usually when shifting up to higher gears such as 4, 5, and 6. I took it to a shop and they said they couldn't replicate or find any issues... not sure what to do

I have 2 bikes at the moment a 1130cc Benenlli sport naked and a beautiful 1984 XT600f. I have had 2 Kawasaki's on the past a Z1R and a GPZ1100. I am now an Italian bike convert and want a Ducati streetfighter or I would love a Bimota, which Kawasaki now own 49% off.

  • I had some issues working the clutch and was so nervous I’d forget parts of the clutch or the instructor directions on my first day of training. Pissed him off which sucks because I tried so hard but kept getting intimidated by the bike. Starting my second day and I’m a lot more confident and calm, hopefully I show my instructor as much. This video was helpful in helping me understand the fundamentals. Thank you!

  • The EXACT SAME theories and principles as driving a stick shift car, except with the risks of flipping the bike, which freaks me out. You have to get out there and get a feel to really learn. When I tried on a 700cc bike, for the first time, I ended up taking off really smooth because of my driving stick shift cars. It was just weird having to stop with my right foot. You just have to train your muscle memory. Lots of practice.

  • Advising to keep the clutch pulled in when you want to immediately decelerate is not a good practice. I remember being told that when I first started riding but I immediately found out that it is a bad practice in most cases. Prime example of that is when you are riding downhill on a low gear and high RPM. If your RPM is already high and you stop pulling the throttle, the bike will hardly accelerate. If however you pull the clutch then there is no gear range limit in place to prohibit the bike from further acceleration, and instead of decelerating you will ACCELERATE with the momentum the bike has already built and the gravity pulling you downhill. The best thing to do when you need to stop fast is stepping on the rear brake while shifting down as fast as you can and releasing the clutch so the bike will be halted by the engine.
