Data gives a stern explanation to Mr. Worf after he publicly shows irritation to Data's command style.

  • I wish they'd gone into Data and Worf's relationship a bit more on TNG. We got hints of Worf's kinship with Data from time to time. They're both 'orphans' in a way that were rescued by Starfleet and were the first of their respective species to enlist in Starfleet. They've both wrestled with their respective 'halves' before (Worf's loyalty to both Starfleet and his Klingon roots)( Data's quest to become more than just an android, to explore his 'humanity). I think one of the most telling moments of their friendship however small a moment it was, was in the episode 'The Most Toys' when Data's shuttle supposedly explodes 'killing' him and Worf is the first person on the bridge to express grief in the moment when he quietly says: 'Data..'

  • Star Trek Discovery handling this scene... Data - "Bro, why you be fuckin with me, acting like a little bitch?!?" Worf - "Why you up in my grill and be hating? Can't I educate and am I not my brothers keeper?!?" Data - "Fo sure but not in front of my peeps, you feel me motherfucker?" Worf - "I didn't mean to be a player hater, we cool?" Data - "Word" Data and Worf high five each other before Worf moonwalks out of the ready room as Data throws up gang signs.

  • This is how adults act. Pride is valuable (obviously a Klingon knows that). Pride also means being able to recognize when you were wrong and correct it, otherwise it's just arrogance. Business is business, it doesn't have to destroy friendships.

  • And I recall a troll named Trekfreek on how he claimed how a first officer must only carry out his Captain's orders, yet even Riker -- in private -- can disagree with Picard. And he did this out of a tantrum over how much he hated the Kelvin timeline. Oh, and the punchline, he made all these claims of Star Trek and all he did was convince me that he can't tell the difference between the USS Enterprise and the Millennium Falcon. Especially since Riker stood against Picard's imposter on Allegence, and Jellico on Chain of Command. Hell, even Spock, Decker and Bones had to confront Kirk at times, even Dr. Crusher and Riker vs. Picard when he was possessed.

  • Stupid question, but, what exactly did Worf do wrong? I didn't see him question anything Data said, and he seemed eager to get started when he said 'Finally.' I'd warrant a guess that Data displeased with Worf potentially seeming like he was rushing them to start, but they looked displeased with his attitude when he rings up their engines too.

  • Data saying "Make it so" with authoritative but deferential respect to his capable crew, and the subtle tug to adjust his blouse that he does at the end of Worf's "reprimand" show just how much of an impact Picard has on his crew as subordinates that they begin to effortlessly mimic him as leaders. That's powerful.

  • Goes to show how far Data has come in being human. In this scene, he has a stern coldness that seems jarring to a viewer given how much we have "warmed up" to Data as the series progressed. In exercising his authority, he depersonalizes, which he is perfectly suited to doing, being an android. But we can see two "different" Datas. One is much warmer and affable, the other is cold and procedural. Two different androids, one more human than the other. Brilliant!

The new Star Trek series, Picard and Discoνery.. do not haνe either of such elements. Hollow, empty, poorly made. Gene's spirit has truly died.

It gives some more interactions between Worf and Data, a man ruled by social standing and one ruled by pragmatism, and has the pragmatic one be the one to explain the social rules. We get some more insight into Riker and Piccard too, despite neither being in this scene.
